Our 2023 Marketing and GMT Co-Op Students Are Here and Making Waves at Appnovation
Daphne Tian, Design & Opportunities Coordinator
Why did you choose Appnovation?
I chose Appnovation because I was interested in learning about design in the field of IT consulting and services, I also heard good things about the company and team culture!
What have you learned so far?
I've learned about the business process and work that goes into securing a deal. There is a lot of research, meetings, and deck work to be done beforehand. It's a very interesting process and I'm glad I can contribute in small parts through deck design, mockups, as well as the opps tasks.
What are you looking towards for the rest of your co-op or your future role?
I look forward to working on more design projects and getting to know my team better!
What was the last movie you saw or book you read?
The last movie I saw was Suzume, from the same creators of Your Name, I thought it was decent, it's pretty entertaining, though there were some recycled tropes and characters that could have been more fleshed out.
Sydney Levington, Opportunities Coordinator, Go-to-Market
Why did you choose Appnovation?
I chose to do my co-op at Appnovation because I really admired all the accolades the company has received for both its work and its company culture.
What have you learned so far?
So far, I have had the opportunity to learn more about the industry and the sales process within digital consulting, which has all been new to me having previously worked in the financial services industry. I have also been able to network with others in the company and learn more about their roles, which has been inspiring and helped me figure out what roles interest me for my career.
What are you looking towards for the rest of your co-op or your future role?
In the rest of my time on co-op, I am looking forward to taking on more projects that I can learn and grow from and continuing to network with more people within Appnovation.
What was the last movie you saw or book you read?
The last movie I watched was 'Catch Me if You Can', which is one of my favourite movies of all time. I love putting it on in the background or just watching it if I can't decide on anything else - it's my comfort movie! I find it so interesting to see the ideas the main character comes up with to scam and deceive, and all the adventures he goes on as a result. I also just love Leonardo DiCaprio :)

Why did you choose Appnovation?
Appnovation stood out to me as a dynamic company with a global presence and an impressive portfolio of work for notable companies in various industries. At the time, I was looking for an exciting and inclusive company to join, and given Appnovation's Great Place to Work Certification, I am grateful to have found such a warm and supportive environment for growth.
What have you learned so far?
Throughout my time at Appnovation, I’ve learned what it takes to secure and maintain a successful client relationship from an internal perspective — from managing client relationships in Salesforce to designing tailored client decks. From these experiences, I’ve learned that every connection I make in the company is valuable — I’ve been lucky to work with individuals who have helped me reach my career goals by offering me opportunities to try new things.
What are you looking towards for the rest of your co-op?
For the rest of my co-op term, I look forward to gaining more design experience on client projects, especially since we’re in the midst of working with some remarkable clients! I am also eager to learn new skills outside of my given role and responsibilities.
What was the last movie you saw or book you read?
The last book I read was Race After Technology: Abolitionist Tools for the New Jim Code by Ruha Benjamin. In the book, Benjamin draws on the relationship between systems design and racial bias using numerous examples of “racist” technology to prove it is not neutral in enabling racism. Benjamin further recommends an Abolitionist Toolkit to prevent and deconstruct these social hierarchies in systems design.
