Meet Andii Davis, our Los Angeles-based Director of Customer Experience and Product Strategy
We sat down (virtually) with Andii and found out more about her work, life, and passion for solving business challenges and flipping houses.
What do you love most about what you do?
I love that moment when it all clicks. As a strategist, you consume so many data points about an industry, a business, the customer, a problem, and you have to quickly make sense of it all. Even more challenging, you have to distill all of your analysis into a concise strategy. I also enjoy the art of crafting a compelling story that reveals a new perspective to stakeholders; a story that they can rally behind. If you're lucky, they love the insight you provide and keep coming back with business challenges for you to unpack.
Where have you worked before, and what valuable learnings did you acquire?
I started my career in finance. It's similar to being a strategist in the sense that you need to analyze market trends, the company and its competitors, and make an investment decision based on who you think will 'win' and why. You then share that perspective with investors across the industry. I switched careers because I wanted to build stuff -- products, brands, and businesses. I've worked both in-house as well as on the agency side. However, my biggest learning was from my startup experience. I built a product that enabled users to shop streaming video. It was a great opportunity to lean into my hacker mentality. I ultimately shared those learnings with teams at Capital One and Huge to help them incorporate innovation and testing and learning practices in their product development.
What do you love most about working at Appnovation?
It's an exciting time for the organization as it builds the professional services business. I'm one of (what I'll call) the founding members of the LA office. It all feels so entrepreneurial -- and that's the type of environment that I love.
What does being an Appnovator mean to you?
It all goes back to the roots of the name -- applied + innovation. For me, that's a rallying cry. A call to action for all employees to embrace innovation, not just when it comes to client solutions, but also internally. It means there's room to put your fingerprint on things.
What advice would you give to someone new to Appnovation or interested in working at Appnovation?
If you see an opportunity to improve process, approach, output, don't sit back. Take the reins and run with it.
What do you do outside of work? i.e. hobbies, special interests, etc.
You're not a Californian if you don't hike, do yoga and wine taste. So, those are my obligatory hobbies. These days, I'm also proficient in park hangs and zoom happy hours. Maybe you should ask me again about my hobbies in late 2021.
I feel happiest when:
I'm most happy on the dance floor... Salsa, Samba, Bhangra, Flash Mob wedding dances...I'm game.
What’s your personal definition of success?
I believe success is about personal growth and getting better over time. We all have our own hurdles and struggles. Overcoming is where the pride, the joy, the fulfillment comes into play.
What does “being successful” mean to you?
Being successful is about being in flow. Loving what you're doing so much that you're wrapped up in the present. If you can find that in all areas of your life, I think you've found success.
What are you looking forward to learning and/or doing next in your career?
I'd like to flip houses and do interior design in my next career. I wonder what it takes to get on HGTV?
