Fresenius Medical Care is the world’s leading provider of products and services for people with chronic kidney failure. Responsible for the care of more than 320,000 patients, the Fresenius Medical global network includes more than 3,700 dialysis clinics. At the same time, Fresenius operates 41 production sites on all continents, to provide dialysis products such as dialysis machines, dialyzers and related disposables, with a strategy geared toward sustainable growth.
Fresenius was looking for development and configuration services, to build a company intranet with Atlassian Confluence. Fresenius’ previous CMS, Liferay, was replaced with Confluence, delivering on the client’s critical functionality requirements.
Our Approach
The intranet needed to be custom themed to their branding standards, which was of paramount importance in the competitive world of medical services. Overall, Fresenius was looking for a low-cost alternative which featured usability and a flexible look and feel.
Cost, efficiency, and solutions drove the business situation for Fresenius. Using innovative delivery development and configuration services, a company intranet with Atlassian Confluence was built. Fresenius’ previous CMS, Liferay, was replaced with Confluence, enabling our digital solution to be implemented.
Appnovation delivered a unique custom design with departmental and functionality-based adaptivity and a complex hierarchy with a strong security layer. Ultimately, 2000 licenses were purchased with plug-ins, allowing for a lower-cost alternative to their legacy CMS.
All digital solutions were themed and developed to uphold corporate branding standards.

Development, integration, design. With a new integrated, functionality-rich-intranet, the Fresenius team can now create, share, upload videos, company culture photos and provide comments and feedback in real time to keep work moving.
